With reference to your letter No.53838/1/37 of

the 27th August, regarding the export of munitions from

Hong Kong to Canton, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Eden

to inform you that he sees no objection to the continuance

of the arrangement by which individual authentications and

huchaos are insisted upon before export is allowed.

I am to suggest for the consideration of Mr. Ormsby

Gore that the Acting Governor of Hong Kong should be instructed

to repeat these telegrams and any others on the same subject to His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Nanking.
